Organizing the Freezer

We have a small "apartment-sized" freezer in our basement.

It's at least 10 years old - I'd even guess closer to 20 - but it works and it's the perfect size for our family.
(please forgive the scruffiness of my freezer - I have more than a few paint drips on it)

Only problem - I always forget what's in it.

Even though it's small, it's still as deep as any other chest freezer, so things get shuffled and shoved to the bottom and I forget what I've bought, made and/or stored.

No more!

I took about 10 minutes today and jotted down the contents

ON TOP OF IT!

With just a black dry-erase marker!

I put ticks next to each item so I know how many I have, and so it's easy to just wipe one tick off every time we pull something out and use it.

This has got to be a money saver if only because we'll be able to see, and use, some of the existing food before running out for more.

As long as you use a dry-erase marker, it shouldn't damage your freezer top either!

Love this! - Thank you Pinterest!

Have a great one!

    1. Only if you didn't mind me "sneaking" some of your baking home with me?! lol

  2. Brilliant! Love the idea of just writing it right there on the freezer itself. Makes sense.
Don't you just love being organized? ~ Jane

    1. It's so easy and makes such a difference - I now actually know what is in the freezer and can prepare meals around that, instead of scrambling to the store to put something together.
Thanks so much for checking out the blog and for commenting!

    1. I wish I could take credit for the brilliance - but I am merely a plagiarist of someone else's genius. Once I saw it, I had to do it myself - and so sharing it was easy.
Thanks for checking out the blog!

  5. We do this with our freezer, too! I am not always diligent about updating it as we take things out. Whenever I check the inventory, I write the date on the freezer. Every six months I do a new a hard inventory.

    1. My favourite ideas are those that are so simple they should have come to me… but didn't. I really like the idea of adding the date for the last inventory check - I'm heading down to add that to my freezer as well. Thanks for sharing!
